I'm so happy to share this gorgeous memory with you.
In the July school holidays Nick and I and the boys (August and Oden) headed down to Mount Hotham Ski Resort for an adventure with Nick's older brother's family. We had a blast.
Before the trip I was saying things like:
"it's expensive but it makes sense to go seeing as the boys just learned to ski on our big trip to Sweden in January"
"I don't LOVE skiing but I'm going because the boys will remember this holiday with the cousins for ever"
"enjoy it kids cause we won't be doing this again for a LONG TIME"
Well... on the drive home all I could think was "now what do we need to do to make this happen every year?!"
We live in a beautiful coastal town known for its beach and great surf (Avoca Beach). Nick loves surfing, the rest of us enjoy the water but not the way that many of the other families in our community do. We're talking hardcore Nippers comps, Boardriders, family surf holidays overseas... Well, as it turns out, while our little boys are a little intimidated by the surf, they are totally at home in the Snow! Is it genetic? Is it those Viking genes that I supposedly carry? Either way, this is that thing that our family love doing together! And I will cling to that for this precious short time that they are little and still want to do stuff with us.
Some tips for a great stay at the snow:
- share accommodation with someone you love. It might be squishy but that kind of makes it even more special and as we say in Sweden "where there's heart room there's bum room" ;-)
- self-cater: cook meals together, BRING THE MULLED WINE, heat a cup for your apres / after ski as you walk through the door to sip while cooking and hanging out in your thermals (you can't do that in a bar! ;-)) This was one of our favourite rituals on our trip.
- pack lunches so you don't have to buy food at resort prices for lunch and snacks every day
